League leaders Panjim Footballers qualified for the North zone play offs, despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Odxel Sports Club in Gfa’s 2nd division at Don Bosco ground, Panjim on Friday. The score was 1-1 at the interval.

Odxel sent out an early warning, when the ball was lifted over the Panjim goalkeeper Alison Fernandes’ head, but the athletic custodian leaped back just in time to cut out the danger.

At the other end, Panjim made their intentions felt when 16 year old Akeraj Martins charged down a defenders clearance, but the Odxel goalkeeper came to the rescue to prevent the nippy striker from adding to his tally this season.

Around the half hour mark, Odxel caught their opponents with an element of surprise, when Nikhil Hadkankar latched on to a lofted ball and delicately scooped it over the outrushing goalkeeper.

Panjim kept their heads up and went straight on the attack. The next ten minutes was one-way traffic and this finally paid off after Clifton Fernandes headed in a Joshua Vaz cross to equalize for Panjim.

Panjim Footballers which is largely made up of Sporting Clube de Goa academy players is currently leading the table with 10 points from four games, while Young Boys of Tonca currently has nine. The two teams are scheduled to meet each other in the final group game, although both has qualified for the North zone play off’s already.
