Sporting Clube de Goa retained the trophy, after overcoming Churchill Brothers Sports Club 1-0 in Gfa’s knock out at Cuncolim ground, on Monday. Sporting Goa led 1-0 at the breather.
Sporting Goa had a first look at the goal when Anthony Wolfe flashed a header across the danger zone, but Sumeet Passi’s header flew just wide of the post.
In the 28th minute, Sporting Goa took the lead when Anthony Wolfe used his devastating pace to make a burst to the byline, before neatly cutting the ball back for Captain Rowllin Borges to lead by example and slice into the bottom corner.
Just before the interval, Sporting Goa midfielder Cajetan Fernandes tried an audacious lob from 45 yards out which had the Churchill goalkeeper at full stretch to tip over the cross bar.
After the change of ends the high tempo of the game remained constant as both teams were fully focused on winning.
Churchill Brothers’ menacing forward Odafe Okolie came closest to finding the equalizer when he stormed down on goal, but the brave Sporting Goa custodian Ravi Kumar dived at his feet to bring the situation under control.
In the end a disciplined performance from the Flaming Oranje, saw them come away with a sweet victory.
GFA President Elvis Gomes was present along with other GFA members. Sporting Goa took home the winner’s trophy and the 1 Lakh prize money, while Churchill Brothers had to settle for the runners up trophy and a cheque of Rs.50, 000.

GFA Knock out Cup Final Preview

Sporting Clube de Goa will take on Churchill Brothers Sports Club in the finals of Gfa’s Knock out Cup at Cuncolim ground, on Monday. The kick off time is 3.45pm.

Sporting Goa qualified for the final after defeating Goa Velha 11-0 in the first round, overcoming Sesa Football Academy 5-0 in the quarter finals and recently getting the better of Salgaocar Football Club 2-1 in the semi-finals.

Churchill Brothers qualified for the final after overcoming Tuff Laxmi Prasad via a tie-breaker in the semi-finals.

Sporting Clube de Goa came from behind to break Salgaocar Football Club’s unbeaten run and qualify for the final after winning 2-1 in Gfa’s Knock out Cup semi-final, at Cuncolim ground, on Saturday. Salgaocar led 1-0 at the interval.

Salgaocar came closest to scoring when Daryl Duffy chipped the ball at goal, only to be denied by the post.

Seven minutes before the breather, Salgaocar found the break through when a cross was swung in from the left side, which Daryl Duffy connected to at the back post with a bullet header to give his side the lead.

After resumption, Sporting Goa was a revitalized team. It took only three minutes to draw level when Kofi Dankwae rose highest to nod home Cajetan Fernandes’ corner to score on his debut.

Ten minutes from time Sporting Goa found the winner when substitute Victorino Fernandes volleyed a Beevan D’Mello corner into the back of the net.

Trinidad and Tobago striker Anthony Wolfe scored a splendid hat-trick as Sporting Clube de Goa trounced Sesa Football Academy 5-0 in Gfa’s Knock out Cup quarter final match at Cuncolim ground, on Wednesday. Sporting Goa led 2-0 at the interval.

Sporting Goa took the lead in the 36th minute when Anthony Wolfe managed to intercept a loose ball in the Sesa defence and make them pay by coolly slipping it past the goalkeeper.

Less than 60 seconds later, a mix up in the Sesa defence allowed Mauvin Borges to steal the ball and fire past the outrushing custodian to double the Flaming Oranje’s lead going into the breather.

Midway through the second session, Sporting Goa’s Wolfe blazed a 35-yard screamer into the back of the net to increase the lead.

In the closing minutes, Wolfe rounded the Sesa custodian to tap in and complete his hat-trick, while substitute Victorino Fernandes completed the rout with a neat placement to the far corner.

In the last round, Sporting Goa moved past Goa Velha 11-0, at Don Bosco ground, with goals from Beevan D’Mello (2), Victorino Fernandes (2), Sumeet Passi, Harpreet Singh, Mauvin Borges, Joseph Pereira, Cajetan Fernandes, Rowllin Borges and Olwin Cardozo.
Sesa qualified for the quarter finals after overcoming, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim 3-0 at Cuncolim ground, with Paresh Korgaonkar who netted a brace, while Alber Gonsalves also got on the score sheet.

Sporting Clube de Goa hammered Goa Velha Sports Club 11-0 in Gfa’s Knock out cup at Don Bosco ground, Panjim on Saturday. Sporting Goa led 4-0 at the interval.

Sporting Goa raced into the lead in the 19th minute when Sumeet Passi firmly headed in a cross delivered in from the left by Harpreet Singh.

Harpreet doubled Sporting Goa’s lead with a sublime volley after Cajetan Fernandes swept in a corner to the back post.

Moments later, Sporting Goa’s Mauvin Borges headed in Beevan D’Mello’s cross. Just before the breather Beevan played a delightful return ball with Captain Joseph Pereira, before striking to send the Flaming Oranje 4-0 up.

In the second half Joseph Pereira, Cajetan Fernandes, Rowllin Borges and Olwin Cardozo all netted. Victorino Fernandes scored a brace, before Beevan completed his brace to make it eleven for Sporting Goa.
