Sporting Clube de Goa Eves reclaim All-Goa Hockey crown

Karuna Kankonkar netted the winner as Sporting Clube de Goa Eves defeated Goa Hockey Promoters 1-0 in the final to lift the Goans Hockey Womens league title, which was organised by Goans Hockey, outside Fatorda Stadium, recently.

The league which is now in its fourth edition was previously won by the Sporting Goa Women in the second season.

Sporting Goa’s victory was masterminded by NIS trained Hockey Coach Anthony Vaz, who had put the ladies through their paces all year round. “Full credit has to go to this wonderful bunch of athletes who have dedicated their time to train and improve week in week out,” stated Anthony.

“I hope more is done to encourage women in sports. Hopefully this league will grow with more teams participating and also business houses coming forward to back them,” added Anthony.

Anthony was also appreciative of the Don Bosco High School, Panjim and Our Lady of the Rosary High School, Dona Paula for providing the grounds for practice.

The Sporting Goan stick wizards qualified for the final after topping the North zone starting with a convincing 2-0 win over last year’s winners San Antonio Warriors, with goals from Deepika Gauns and Karuna Kankonkar.

In their second match they overcame Pink Panthers with a similar score line. Andrea Sequeira and Sybyl Fernandes hit the back of the net for the Flaming Oranje Ladies.

In the other game San Antonio ran out 5-0 winners over Pink Panther. Dakshita Naik, Kurtika Shirodkar (2), Stiffy Fernandes, Rakey Naik did the damage.

Sporting Goa topped the North group with 6 points, followed by San Antonio with 3 and Pink Panthers finished last with 0 points.

In the South, Goa Hockey Promoters defeated Navelim Hockey Club by a solitary goal courtesy of a fine strike from Liona Fernandes to make their way into the final.

Sporting Goa received the winner’s trophy at the hands of Chief Guest Cynthia D’souza, former DSYA TSO, Bardez Taluka.

Sporting Goa Men bow out at Semi’s

All-Goa Mens Hockey Championship

Despite putting up a gallant performance, Sporting Clube de Goa were edged out 2-3 by SAI Guddi, Ponda in the semi-finals of the All Goa men’s hockey championship, outside Fatorda ground, on Monday. The score was tied 1-1 at the interval.
Sunny Gaonkar struck in the first half while Praful Magelaya was on target for the Flaming Oranje in the second session.
Meanwhile, Sporting Goa eves missed out on the girl’s U-18 title on goal difference. Guirim Warriors took top honours after both teams finished level on 4 points.

Sporting Clube de Goa Eves crowned All-Goa Hockey Champions

Felicity Lopes netted the winner as Sporting Clube de Goa Eves were crowned Hockey champions after overcoming Sky Walkers 2-1 in the finals of the Senior Women’s Hockey Championship, at Guirim ground on Friday.

Karuna kankonkar scored after just 33 seconds to give Sporting Goa Eves a 1-0 lead at half time. Shortly after the break, Andreya Sequeira equalized for Sky Walkers to set up a frantic ending. It was Sporting Goa who prevailed when Felicity found the winner late on.

 Sporting Goa Eves defeated stars of Sattari 3-0, with goals from Maheshweri Haldankar, Shriya Raikar and Felicity Lopes recently to finish top of the league table with 10 points which allowed them to qualify for the final against second placed Sky Walkers who completed their league engagements with 7 points.

In the North Goa senior Men’s Hockey final, Sporting Clube de Goa were crowned North Goa champions after defeating Bastora 5-2 via the tie breaker. The match was tied 1-1 at full time.

Sunny Gaonkar scored for Sporting Goa, while Pankaj Karapurkar netted for Bastora. In the tie-breaker, Anthony Vaz, Akash Vazarkar, Robert Coelho and John Fernandes converted for the Flaming Oranje, while Manoj Pednekar scored for Bastora.

In the semi finals, Sporting Goa beat Caranzalem 3-1 with goals from Neville Rodrigues, Praful Maghaia and Akash Vazarkar. Mozan sheikh scored a consolation goal for Caranzalem.

Sporting Goa men will next face SAI Guddi in the semi finals of the All Goa championship.

Player cum coach, Anthony Vaz scored the winner as Sporting Clube de Goa qualified for the North Zone play off’s after defeating Stars of Sattari 1-0 in the Senior men’s Hockey championship at Don Bosco ground, Panjim on Sunday.

Sporting Goa will now play Caranzalem Sporting and MRF will take on Bastora Boys in the other semi final.

In the Senior Women’s tournament, Sporting Clube de Goa eve’s defeated Bastora Girls 2-0 with goals from Manjita Mathkar and Pranjali Halankar. In another match Sporting Goa eve’s overcame last year’s champions Sky walkers 3-2. Pranjali Halankar and Manjita Mathkar scored in the first half, while Shriya Raikar netted in the second half.

In the U-18 girl’s hockey league at Guirim ground, Sporting Goa defeated Bastora 3-0, with goals from Pranjali Halankar, Sybel Fernandes and karuna Kankonkar. In their second match the Flaming Oranje eves were held to a goalless draw by Guirim Warriors.

Sporting Clube de Goa trounced Young Sports 8-0 in the Men’s senior state Hockey Championship, at Don Bosco ground, Panjim on Sunday. Sporting Goa led 3-0 at the breather.
John Fernandes, Neville Rodrigues and Rajat scored for the Flaming Oranje in the first half.
After the break, Praful, Akash Vazarkar, Paul Pereira, Elroy Pinto and kuldeep Tirkey increased the lead.
In the Women’s senior hockey championship, Sporting Clube de Goa was held to a 1-1 draw with Hockey Warriors in their opening match.
Shreya Raikar netted for Sporting Goa, while Krutikarra Shirodkar scored for Hockey Warriors.
