Sporting Clube de Goa held by Dempo

GFA U-18 League

A tough fought Panjim Derby saw Sporting Clube de Goa held to a goalless draw by Dempo Sports Club in Gfa’s U-18 League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Tuesday.

Sporting Goa enjoyed better ball retention and found their rhythm more often than their opponents. Both teams created good chances in front of goal but were wasteful and guilty of missing the opportunities.

Dempo had a great chance to take the lead on the half hour mark when Kapil Hoble chipped the ball over the goalkeeper but it fell just wide of the post.

Changing over, Kapil’s volley was wonderfully saved after Aaron Rodrigues curled in a free kick to the back post for Dempo.

Biswajeet Rajput had two glorious chances to score for the Flaming Oranje. His first shot went just over the cross bar, while the second one was nudged onto the post by the Dempo custodian.

In the closing stages, Sporting Goa piled on the pressure with Dayne Britto forcing a wonderful save when he headed Akeraj Martins’ corner on target.

Vineet Bugde had a super chance to steal victory at the death for Dempo when he waltzed past his marker but failed to hit the target with the goalkeeper at his mercy.

It was Sporting Goa who nearly had the last word, when Akeraj was played through on goal but his chip over the Dempo custodian whistled agonizingly past the post.

Ten men Sporting Clube de Goa breeze past Dempo

GFA U-18 League

Ten men Sporting Clube de Goa comfortably breezed past Dempo Sports Club 2-1 in Gfa’s U-18 League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Monday. Sporting Goa led 1-0 at the interval.

It was a thoroughly deserved victory for the Flaming Oranje Juniors as they stuck to the plan of their Coach Mahesh Lotlikar. Sporting Goa combined well at the back and also penetrated their opponents defence with some swift counter attack play.

Sporting Goa raced into the lead after a quarter of an hour when a superb through ball was played forward for Harshed Naik who managed to beat the rival goalkeeper to the ball with his pace and bury it into an empty net.

After resumption, Sporting Goa continued to attack with real determination and was rewarded when Captain Akeraj Martins blasted in to double the lead.

Deep into injury time, Vineet Bugde curled a spectacular free kick into the back of the net for Dempo to set up an exciting finale to the Panjim derby.

Sporting Goa’s Joaquim Cardoza was sent off in the closing stages for a reckless tackle.
