Ashley Soares scored a brace as Salgaocar Football Club edged past Sporting Clube de Goa 3-1 in Gfa’s U-16 League at Don Bosco ground, Panjim on Monday. Salgaocar led 2-1 at the lemon break.

Salgaocar took the lead when Ashley headed in from a corner midway through the first half.

The lead lasted barely five minutes as Sporting Goa went on the rampage and pulled back the equaliser through a sweet delicate chip from Savelon Cardozo.

Just before the breather, Salgaocar managed to edge their noses in front again when Ashley caught the Sporting Goa goalkeeper off guard with a sublime lob.

After resumption, Sporting Goa worked hard as a unit to try and get back on level terms but was squeezed out in the final third.

Deep into injury time, against the run of play Salgaocar’s Ashton Rodrigues executed a chip from distance which beat the Flaming Oranje goalkeeper hands down to secure victory for his team.

Sporting Clube de Goa was held to a goalless draw by Velsao Pale in Gfa’s U-16 League at Velsao ground, on Wednesday.

Vijay Rathod came close to scoring early on for Sporting Goa when he gave his marker the slip but saw his effort saved by the Velsao goalkeeper.

At the other end Velsao’s Joel Dias tried to exploit the opportunities when he dribbled through on a mazy run but his shot was foiled by the Sporting Goa custodian Akshat Hadkonkar.

Sporting Goa’s David Baptista then tried a shot from distance, but it was easily gathered by the Velsao custodian.

Velsao started to move the ball around well and nearly found the catalyst to break the dead lock when Mylon Fernandes was presented with a one on one shooting chance, but he swept the ball wide of the post.

Moments later, Velsao were at it again when Princeton Rebello popped up but Akshat made another brave save to deny him.

Sporting Goa Captain Stendly Fernandes clearly reveled in the high tempo of the game and showed some creativity when he used his fiery pace to check inside, but blasted just wide of the goal.

After the change of ends the players of both teams started to tire and could not match the accomplished performance of the first half.
