Chatur Naik netted a super solo goal in the 82nd minute as Sporting Clube de Goa drew 1-1 with ten-men Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, in the Gfa‘s taca Goa U-20 League, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Thursday.
Cavelossim took a surprise lead in the 11th minute when Aman Kinlekar hammered in, after receiving a delicate pass from Shashank Ashwekar.
Sporting Goa’s best chance of the first half fell to Mauvin Borges whose stiff grounder nearly found the equalizer.
Changing over, it was another attempt from Sporting Goa’s Mauvin, who had the goalkeeper at full stretch to keep out his dipping free kick.
In the 72nd minute Cavelossim’s Shashank saw red for his second bookable offence of the day.
Sporting Goa’s movement forward started to increase with the wing backs bombing down the touch lines to support the attack.
Sporting Goa’s Chatur produced a moment of sheer brilliance as he twinkle toed his way into the box and fired past the rival goalkeeper. After the equalizer it was one-way traffic as the Flaming Oranje spurned half a dozen chances to find the winner.

GFA Taca Goa U-20 League

Dempo Sports Club narrowly overcame Sporting Clube de Goa 2-0 in Gfa’s Taca Goa U-20 League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Saturday. Dempo led 1-0 at the breather.
Sporting Goa had to contend with nine players on the injured list, which meant some players were playing out of their usual positions and it took some time for them to gel.
Dempo came out strongly and enjoyed a good twenty minute spell where they kept greater ball possession. In the 27th minute Clencio Pinto wriggled his way past his marker and fired low to give Dempo the lead.
Three minutes later, Clencio had the opportunity to double the lead but his penalty kick was wonderfully saved by the Sporting Goa custodian Alison Fernandes and from the rebound Clencio rattled the cross bar, before Lesten Martins acrobatically hooked the ball away to safety.
Changing over, Sporting Goa was a revitalized side as they looked to get back in to contention. The Flaming Oranje dominated and came close on a number of occasions with Yogendra Thapa forcing the Dempo goalkeeper into action.
In the final minute as Sporting Goa continued to pile men forward, they were caught on the break, with Dempo’s Fredsan Marshall placing the ball home to make it 2-0.

Alesh Sawant netted in the 90th minute as Churchill Brothers Sports Club narrowly edged past Sporting Clube de Goa 1-0 in Gfa’s Taca Goa U-20 League, at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Wednesday. The match was goalless at the interval.
Sporting Goa had Charles Cardoz out suspended while Gautham Dias, Jesus Estrocio, Aniket Mandraker and Papai Biswas were all out injured.
Sporting Goa lost tough tackling central midfielder Olan Chandran early on through injury and he had to be replaced by Prajyot Kerkar.
The first half was pretty even, with both sides coming close to surging ahead. Churchill’s Alesh saw his fiery shot wonderfully saved by the Sporting Goa custodian, while at the other end Chatur Naik’s effort was kept out after team mate Mauvin Borges initial shot was charged down.
After resumption, the Flaming Oranje did a lot of damage down the right flank but failed to profit for their hard work.
Sporting Goa’s Lesten Martins had a glorious chance from a corner, but his effort fizzled marginally wide of the post.
With time running out, Churchill’s right back Elvis Barreto pumped a long hopeful free kick forward which bounced into the path of Alesh Sawant and he kept his composure to punt home the winner.

Chatur Naik and Lesten Martins netted a brace each as Sporting Clube de Goa hammered Wilred Leisure Sports Club 6-2 in Gfa’s Taca Goa U-20 League at Don Bosco ground, Panjim on Saturday. Sporting Goa led 6-0 at the interval.
Chatur Naik kept up his great goal scoring form, as he placed the ball into the back of the net after just six minutes. Within sixty seconds Sporting Goa managed to double the lead after Akeraj Martins’ cross was rebounded into the path of Lesten to smash home.
Within ten minutes Sporting Goa’s Lesten was on target again as he kept his shot low to deceive the Wilred custodian.
Sporting Goa’s Lesten then turned provider as he sprinted down the right flank and crossed for Mauvin Borges to fire into the back of the net.
Sporting Goa’s Chatur netted his fifth goal in two matches on the half hour mark, when he crept into the box to finish from a perfect Mauvin cross.
Charles Cardoz got in on the act as he jumped high at the back post to head in from a corner and make it a half-dozen for the Flaming Oranje, within 33 minutes.

Sporting Clube de Goa trials come to an end

After receiving a phenomenal response, Sporting Clube de Goa’s All-Goa Football selection trials came to an end at Don Bosco ground, Panjim, on Thursday.
Sporting Goa had spent the last two weeks searching for football talent in Goa, to induct into the SCG Football Academy.
The talent hunt started at Duler Stadium, Mapusa before moving on to Don Bosco ground in Panjim and finally to two venues in the South at Navelim ground and Raia ground.
Players were shortlisted in the U-14, U-16 and U-17 to U-20 age group category, where a lot of raw talent was unearthed for moulding into Professional footballers.
After the club’s recent success in winning the GFA Knock out Cup to add to the Goa Pro League won earlier in the season, interest in the trials increased.
A few days later, when Sporting Goa won the GFA U-14 All Goa 1st division league title, interest in the trials intensified.
One enthusiastic U-20 boy even travelled from Karnataka by train, with the hope of being able to try out for the selection.
“For players who missed the selection trials for any reason, they should not worry as the club is planning to have similar initiatives to harness Goan talent in the near future and also has an ongoing scouting program in place,” stated Sporting Clube de Goa CEO Victor Fernandes.
