Sporting Clube de Goa and Calangute Association play out goalless draw

In front of a large packed crowd, Sporting Clube de Goa was held to a goalless draw by Calangute Association in round 4 of Gfa’s Goa Pro League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Wednesday.

Calangute came close to breaking the dead lock early on when Felix Odili shot swerved just past the post.

In the second session, Sporting Goa midfielder Cajetan Fernandes hit a rasping shot from 25 yards out, but was denied by the cross bar.

Sporting Goa continued to commit men forward and had a number of good chances to surge ahead with Odafa Okolie, Sumeet Passi, and Ganesh Thakur all coming close.

In the end both teams had to be content with a point each. With this result Calangute move to 8 points, while the Flaming Oranje moves to four points.

Sporting Clube de Goa to do battle with Calangute

Sporting Clube de Goa take on Calangute Association in round 4 of Gfa’s Goa Pro League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Wednesday. The kick off time is 4pm.

After two successive losses, Sporting Goa registered their first win in the league in the last round with a comfortable 5-1 victory over bottom placed Curtorim Gymkhana.

Calangute on the other hand managed a goalless draw in their last encounter against Salgaocar and will be looking to get back to winning ways after making a good start to the league.

Calangute are currently on 7 points from three matches, while Sporting Goa is on 3 points from the same number of games.

Sporting Clube de Goa win 11-0

GFA Taca Goa U-20 League

Sporting Clube de Goa hammered Curtorim Gymkhana 11-0 in Gfa’s Taca Goa U-20 League at the practice ground, Fatorda, on Saturday. Sporting Goa led 3-0 at the breather after Harshad Naik netted a brace and Akeraj Martins also scored.

In the second session Sporting Goa’s Akeraj completed his hat-trick with a further two goals. Quan Gomes and Pristo Fernandes also managed to get their names on the score sheet with a goal apiece.

Sporting Goa Substitute Delbert Fernandes rose of the bench to bag four fantastic goals in quick succession to inflate the lead and take his personal tally to seven goals in two matches.

The pick of the bunch was Akeraj’s third for the Flaming Oranje, after he went on a slalom run past three defenders and played a return pass with Delbert before sinking the ball into the back of the net.

“I am happy with the result and more importantly the performance. After the last game we worked on a few things and tweaked some areas. Today the players responded beautifully,” remarked Sporting Goa’s U20 Coach Norbert Gonsalves.

Sporting Clube de Goa trounce Curtorim Gymkhana

GOA PRO LEAGUE

Sporting Clube de Goa came from behind to trounce Curtorim Gymkhana 5-1 in Gfa’s Goa Pro League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday. The match was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Curtorim took the lead on the stroke of half time when Hanslyn Furtado converted a penalty, after Sporting Goa defender Clemente Joseph was adjudged to have brought down former Sporting Goa winger Xavier Dias inside the box.

The lead did not last long as Odafa Okolie promptly equalized for the Flaming Oranje after receiving a pass from substitute Ganesh Thakur.

After the resumption, Sporting Goa’s Ganesh got his name on the score sheet after receiving a neat through ball from Odafa.

Midway through the second half, Sporting Goa’s Franzil Negredo hit a beautiful volley into the back of the net to make it 3-1 after connecting onto Cajetan Fernandes’ tempting corner.

Deep into injury time, Sporting Goa’s Glan Martins set up Odafa who completed his brace when he delicately scooped over the goalkeeper and then Ganesh also netted his second of the game after another well executed pass from Glan.

Sporting Clube de Goa trounce Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim

GFA Taca Goa U-20 League

Super Sub Delbert Fernandes grabbed a hat-trick as Sporting Clube de Goa trounced Santa Cruz club of Cavelossim 7-2 in Gfa’s Taca Goa U-20 league at the practice ground, Fatorda on Thursday. Sporting Goa led 2-1 at the breather.

It was Cavelossim who took the initiative when Floyd Fernandes punted in to the back of the net in the opening five minutes.

Stung by the setback, Sporting Goa stepped on the gas and were rewarded when Akeraj Martins soon equalised. Just before the interval Deryl D’Costa struck to give the Flaming Oranje the lead.

In the second session, Jesmon Soares added a brace to swell the lead and soon after Delbert who came on to replace Akeraj added two more for Sporting Goa.

In the dying stages Mendes pulled another goal back for Cavelossim, although there was still time for Delbert to complete the rout with his third of the game.

Sporting Clube de Goa lock horns with Cavelossim

Sporting Clube de Goa will take on Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim in round 2 of Gfa’s Goa Pro League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Saturday. The kick off time is 4pm.

Sporting Goa lost their opening match to Churchill Brothers 0-3, while Cavelossim were defeated 1-2 by Calangute Association in another round one game.

Both teams will be eager to pick up their first points of the season, which will make the contest that much more exciting.

Sporting Clube de Goa’s Nigerian sharp shooter Odafa Okolie sat out the first round, but is all set to feature in this game.

Churchill defeat 10 men Sporting Goa

Goa Pro League 2015/16

Churchill Brothers Sports Club overcame ten men Sporting Clube de Goa 3-0 in Gfa’s Goa Pro League at Duler stadium, Mapusa on Thursday. Churchill led 2-0 at the breather.

Sporting Goa had to play virtually the whole game with ten men after debutant Issac Negredo was sent off after just two minutes for a foul in the box. From the resulting penalty Kamaldeep Singh put Churchill in front.

Ten minutes later Churchill managed to double their lead when Pankaj Sona curled the ball into the back of the net directly from a corner kick.

Changing over Sporting Goa fought back resiliently and created chances, but could not breach the rival citadel.

In the final ten minutes Churchill sealed victory after the Sporting Goa custodian failed to clear the ball which allowed Seriton Fernandes to walk the ball into an empty net.
